As iconic as cocktails come, the Martini is perhaps the most recognised cocktail in the world but despite its simplicity, it's also one of the most misunderstood.

It's the namesake of brands, glassware and countless other cocktails and is served in just as many different ways. Although traditionally made with gin, all styles of martini can be made with Vodka too. A classic Martini is stirred, not shaken, whilst a Vesper Martini is the one that is shaken.

You'll need...

Glass: Martini

  • 60ml Gin or Vodka
    10ml Dry Vermouth

  • 10ml Olive Brine

  • 3 Olives (to garnish)

  1. First pour the vermouth into a mixing glass, add ice and stir briefly.

  2. To make your Martini 'dry' strain the vermouth out of the glass. To make it 'wet' keep it in.

  3. Add the vodka/gin (and olive brine if 'dirty') to the mixing glass and stir thoroughly.

  4. Strain into a glass with no ice

  5. If Dirty, garnish with 3 olives threaded onto a toothpick

  6. Thread olives onto toothpick and position on the side of the glas
