Made with limes, sugar and a type of rum called cachaça, caipirinhas are the national drink of Brazil and is tied closely to their cultural identity.
Caipirinhas are said to have been a drink made for the wealthy classes of early 20th century Brazil, despite allegedly being created by peasant farmers!
It is common to add muddled fruits like strawberries this recipe or even to replace cachaça with vodka to create a Caipiroska.
Glass: Lowball
Ingredients:
• 60ml Cachaça
• 2 teaspoons Brown Sugar
• 6 lime wedges
Steps:
• Muddle the limes and brown sugar together in an empty glass
• Half fill the glass with crushed ice
• Pour in the cachaça and churn with a bar spoon
• Fill the rest of the glass with crushed ice
